How a Buyer Can Check the Changing Prices in China

Are Chinese manufacturers artificially increasing their prices for goods simply to make more profit? Although the suggestion has been made, it seems doubtful that it is accurate. Of course, there are culprits who would do almost anything for a bit more income, but the actual problem lies outside the control of the Chinese factory owners.

The cost of most raw materials has been rising worldwide for some time. Most commodities used in producing items in China are traded worldwide. China is not the only country which must buy those raw materials. The cost of labour is also on the rise. These increased costs must be absorbed by someone, and the most logical party to absorb them is the end consumer.

The Chinese government has been keeping control over the value of their currency. The Chinese yuan has been appreciating against the US dollar and will likely continue to do so. This also affects the costs in the country.

What a buyer can do to check the costs of manufactured good produced in China is to compare prices for the types of items he is buying. Instead of buying from only one factory, choose three factories which produce similar items. Then, keep track of their respective costs for the items as well as the quality. If there are significant differences in costs over time, find out why.

Some Chinese producers who already have long-term contracts with overseas buyers choose to change the quality of the items they produce, sometimes without notifying the buyers. It could be a lower quality of raw material than previously or a smaller size of products. That way, they can keep the price more constant and maintain the same relative profit.
