Places in China: Hebei Province
Hebei Province is a progressive area of China. It surrounds two other municipalities, Beijing and Tianjin. Although those two cities are enveloped by Hebei, they are not a part of the province.
The capital city of Hebei is Shijiazhuang and is about one hundred fifty miles from Beijing. It is a modern city with many commercial and tourist destinations available. It is a hub of the national railway network of China as well as the home of the country's largest pharmaceutical company and the military academy of the national army.
Besides tourist attractions within the province such as the Great Wall, the nation's largest Buddha statue and China's oldest monastery, the province is a successful commercial and agricultural centre. Being on the Huang He (Yellow River), the capital has blossomed into one of the showpieces of Chinese modern cities.
The neighbouring provinces, besides the two municipalities within its border, include Inner Mongolia, Shandong, Henan, Liaoning and Shanxi. The people of Hebei are ninety-six percent Han with three percent being Manchu with a scattering of other ethnic groups. The province's population density is 363 persons per square kilometre. The land area of the province is 79,000 square miles which contains a population of sixty-eight million people.
Four distinct seasons are found in Hebei with summer being warm and winters being quite cool. Spring and autumn have more pleasant temperatures.
The climate is good for agricultural activity. Other income-producing activities include one of the nation's largest coal mines as well as steel and textile production. Being close to Beijing, the province gets its share of tourist trade, too. A portion of the Great Wall is found within the borders of Hebei province as well as the Great China Plain. Several cities within the province have tourism attraction which brings in extra income.
