How to Respond to Low-Quality Products
One should have done significant research before having contracted with a foreign supplier. That should have helped to weed out any who did not meet your standards of quality. However, there may be times when you receive a shipment which does not satisfy you concerning quality. Here are some tips to consider in such a situation.
If your supplier has quoted you a very low price for goods, you should be dubious about his honesty. Of course, he could have misquoted a price or some element in the quality of the product. In that case, a check on the web site should help you to know the actual price of particular goods.
If that does not satisfy you, some belated research would be in order. Check his banking details, his address and telephone number. Find out everything you can about him and his business. You can even contact your country's embassy in his country. They may be able to give some information on the supplier, information which you should have obtained before going into business with him.
If the shipment you receive is clearly of poor quality, contact the supplier to discuss it. It could be he sent the wrong order by mistake. At least, keep all documents concerning the order in case you need to consider a lawsuit.
If your shipment comes by courier, keep the courier agent with you while you unpack the shipment to check for breakage or poor quality. If you find something is broken or the quality of below your expectations, do not accept the package. The courier will have to return it to the supplier.
Be careful how you pay your supplier. If you use Western Union, the payment is immediate, and you cannot get it back. Especially on an initial order with a supplier, it is best to use an escrow payment service. That way, your payment will be protected.
